At some point during the 1980's my parents were on a diet where they had to eat an apple a day. I can't remember the name of the diet, just that apples were a part of the weight loss program. Then I read another great article by vegan health guru, Kathy Freston called "An Apple a Day Melts the Pounds Away!" (For those of you unfamiliar with hyper-links, if you click on that you can read the entire article. Or click here is that is easier for you: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kathy-freston/apples-health_b_1418993.html )
Now I'm not vegan nor vegetarian but I LOVE apples. And I'm thrilled that Fall is almost here and our local apples farms are open! One of the key components of The Fiddle Diet is eating a minimum of two fruits and two vegetables per day. Ideally you would eat three, but two of each is the minimum.
Apples help with weight loss for a number of reasons. The main one being that they are packed with fiber. They are touted by some as being "the world's healthiest food" and there is actually scientific research backing up the old claim "that an apple a day, keeps the doctor away."
If you google "health benefits of apples" you will find article after article explaining the numberous health benefits of apples from being anti-cancer to reducing cholesterol to preventing heart disease.
To me they are a delicious go to snack in the afternoon. I also find if I just want a little something extra in the evening that a small apple or a half an apple will do the trick.
Find the best apples you can and keep them in the refrigerator. There is nothing better than an cold crisp delicious apple, especially when enjoying it helps the pounds go down on the scale!
